George Herald journalist Jacqueline Herbst joined a three-day slackpacking adventure in the Wilderness area from 22 to 24 August. Guided by veteran adventurer Anette Grobler, a group of eight hikers explored some of the Garden Route’s most scenic hidden gems on foot. The first two days saw the group cover 17km and 14km along the coast, hiking from Buffels Bay to Sedgefield and from Gericke’s Point to Kleinkrantz. Day two was rounded off with a tranquil kayaking trip on the Kaaimans River. On the final day, they traded sandy shores for lush forest trails, making their way to a breathtaking waterfall on the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail. Some of the photos were supplied by fellow slackpackers.
